Visitors can wander the streets, admire the cars and enjoy food vendors, shopping, music, family entertainment and activities throughout the day. I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?

You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.

Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?

Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.

The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.

That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.

Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.

Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.

If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.

🏙️ Wilsonville updates its Town Center plans. The city has added new materials to WilsonvilleTownCenter.com, including a “Visualizing the Future” page, an updated FAQ and draft versions of the proposed Town Center Development District Plan. The updates give residents a clearer look at how Wilsonville is preparing for thoughtful growth, improved connections and a more vibrant Town Center in the years ahead.

🍽️ Several restaurants earned perfect inspection scores. Clackamas County’s July food-safety inspections awarded scores of 100 to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in Lake Oswego; Subway, Dutch Bros, Burgerville, Dairy Hill Ice Cream and Starbucks on Willamette Falls Drive in West Linn; and Starbucks on Boones Ferry Road, Baskin-Robbins, Bellagios Pizza, Subway and IHOP in Wilsonville.

The first day of school is getting closer. Canby students return Monday, Aug. 31, while West Linn-Wilsonville and several Sherwood students begin Tuesday, Sept. 1. Lake Oswego schools open Sept. 8. Tigard-Tualatin and Sherwood both use staggered starts by grade, so families should double-check their district calendars before setting that first alarm.

🎒 Perlo launches its annual school supply drive. Donations will be collected throughout August to help local students begin the school year with the supplies they need. South Metro residents can drop off folders, notebooks, pencils, pens, rulers, glue, crayons and other classroom basics at the Perlo office, 11450 SW Amu Street in Tualatin.

📵 Schools are renewing the cell phone reminder. With classes starting in less than four weeks for many South Metro students, districts are asking parents to revisit the rules at home. Personal electronic devices capable of calls or texts must remain stored and out of use throughout the school day, including during class changes and restroom breaks, though some high school students may use phones during lunch when they are off campus.

❤️ Sunnyside earns Oregon’s top cardiac-care ranking. Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center may sit on the far side of the metro for some South Metro residents, but the recognition is still welcome regional news. U.S. News & World Report ranked Sunnyside No. 1 in Oregon for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, while also naming it a Best Regional Hospital and recognizing strong performance across 17 areas of care.

🗳️ Wilsonville wins our dining and entertainment poll. Congratulations to Wilsonville for taking the top spot, with Lake Oswego finishing second.

  • Wilsonville — 25%

  • Lake Oswego — 18%

  • Tualatin — 15%

  • Canby — 13%

  • Oregon City — 10%

  • West Linn — 10%

  • Sherwood — 9%

🎈 🎵 😋 Oregon City Festival of the Arts
End of the Oregon Trail Center, Oregon City | Saturday & Sunday, 9 AM–4 PM | Free
The Oregon City Festival of the Arts returns for its 10th year with two days of juried art, live music, food vendors and hands-on activities for children. Visitors can browse and purchase work from regional artists, enjoy performances throughout the weekend and give younger artists a chance to create something of their own. Admission is free, making this an easy stop for families, art lovers or anyone hoping to come home with something more interesting than another mass-produced wall print.

🎈 Southwest Corgi Meetup
Hazelia Field Dog Park, Lake Oswego | Saturday, 1–3 PM | Free
Corgi owners—and anyone who appreciates a gathering of very short dogs with very big personalities—are invited to Hazelia Field Dog Park Saturday afternoon. The meetup gives local corgis a chance to run, play and make new friends while their humans swap stories, tips and probably several hundred photos. Dogs of all corgi sizes and mixes are welcome, making this an unusually adorable way to spend part of the afternoon.

🎈 💲 😋 Worth the Drive: Seattle Storm at Portland Fire
Moda Center, Portland | Saturday, 5:30 PM | Ticketed
This one sits outside the usual South Metro loop, but a night of professional women’s basketball at Moda Center earns a Worth the Drive mention. The Seattle Storm visit the Portland Fire for a Saturday evening matchup, giving families a chance to catch high-level basketball in a big-arena setting. Food and drinks will be available inside, so grab tickets, head north and make a night of it.

🎈 🎵 😋 Hit Machine at Classic Cruisin’ Sherwood
Old Town Sherwood | Saturday, 7:30 PM | Free
The cars may be the daytime attraction, but Hit Machine keeps the party going Saturday night with a free, all-ages concert in Old Town Sherwood. The high-energy cover band is known for jumping across decades and genres, turning familiar hits into a dance-friendly live show. A beer garden will be available for guests 21 and older, while families can settle in and enjoy a lively finish to one of Sherwood’s biggest community days.
