TOGETHER WITH

Good Morning, South Metro. ๐ŸŽต Monday, Monday. So good to me. Monday mornin.โ€™ It was all I hoped it would be. But Monday mornin.โ€™ Monday mornin.โ€™ couldn't guarantee. That Monday eveninโ€™ you would still be here with me.

Name the artist?

Coming up in todayโ€™s South Metro Weekly:

  • ๐Ÿšณ Tualatin wants to hear what you think about e-bikes and e-scooters at a meeting tomorrow night.

  • ๐Ÿšฆ Sherwoodโ€™s Speed Cams are on the move today.

  • ๐Ÿˆ And a high school football game with over a century of history.

And as we get closer to the season of shopping and giving, we want to share a little Christmas cash with readers like you.

Letโ€™s get started.

๐Ÿซ Some Tualatin Schools Could Be Getting a Bilingual Makeover

Courtesy: Bridgeport Elementary Facebook page

Learning a second language is a pretty useful skill. And the Tigard-Tualatin School District wants to give more kids the chance to do just that.

The district is looking at expanding its two-way immersion program, where students learn in both English and Spanish.

The idea? Eventually turn some elementary schools into campuses dedicated entirely to bilingual learning.

There's just one little wrinkle.

At Bridgeport Elementary in Tualatin, students who aren't enrolled in the bilingual program would move to either Byrom or Tualatin Elementary.

The same thing would happen at Metzger Elementary in Tigard, where English-only students would move to Charles F. Tigard Elementary.

So why the shuffle?

Superintendent Dr. Iton Udosenata says running two different programs in the same building creates some challenges. Having schools dedicated to each program could help things run more smoothly.

Of course, changing schools isn't quite as simple as changing classrooms.

Some parents have questions about transportation, keeping siblings together, and what the changes would mean for their kids.

Fair questions.

The good news is that nothing is finalized yet. The district says there's room to adjust the proposal and plans to meet with families to hear their thoughts.

If approved, the changes would begin in the 2027โ€“28 school year.

For now, it's a conversation about how to expand bilingual education while making the transition work for everyone.

Taking care of yourself doesnโ€™t always have to feel so serious.

Azend also offers warm and hot yoga, cryotherapy, red light and salt therapy, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other ways to help you feel your best.

๐Ÿˆ It's Official: Rivalry Day! โ€“ The cities of West Linn and Oregon City have declared this Friday, October 30, โ€œOregon Cityโ€“West Linn Rivalry Dayโ€ in honor of their historic high school football showdown. This year's game marks the 106th meeting in what's recognized as the longest continuously played high school football rivalry west of the Mississippi. The two cities are encouraging everyone to show their hometown pride and cheer on their teams. For one night, being a good neighbor might mean rooting against the folks across the river!

๐Ÿšจ Sherwood's Speed Cameras Are on the Move โ€“ Heads up, Sherwood drivers! The city's mobile speed cameras are moving to SW Murdock Road near SW Fairoaks Drive starting today. Police say the new location comes after community requests and feedback. And here's something worth knowing: There's no grace period. Tickets begin immediately for drivers going 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit. So keep an eye on that speedometer. Your wallet will thank you!

๐Ÿ‘ฎ A Familiar Face Takes the Top Job in Canby โ€“ After nearly 30 years with the Canby Police Department, Jose Gonzalez is now the city's police chief! Gonzalez was sworn in at the October 21 City Council meeting, where Mayor Brian Hodson recognized his accomplishments. Gonzalez joined the department in 1996, became a sergeant in 2005, and was promoted to captain in 2020. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, he's worked his way through the ranks right here in Canby. Congratulations, Chief Gonzalez!

๐Ÿงฉ West Linn's Puzzle Masters Put to the Test โ€“ Who knew putting together a jigsaw puzzle could be a competitive sport? The West Linn Public Library recently hosted a Speed Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge, giving teams two hours to complete a 500-piece puzzle. The winning team finished in an impressive 1 hour and 2 minutes! Even better, every team beat the clock, with the final puzzle completed in 1 hour and 47 minutes. The library says more challenges could be coming. Time to start practicing those corner pieces!

๐Ÿ”ฅ A TikTok Trend Worth Talking About โ€“ Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue is giving parents a heads-up about a dangerous social media trend called the โ€œFire Challenge,โ€ where kids deliberately set themselves or their clothing on fire for online attention. Thankfully, it hasn't become a local trend, and firefighters would like to keep it that way. Deputy Fire Marshal Stephanie McKee encourages parents to talk with their kids about what they're seeing online and keep an eye on potentially dangerous content. Some internet trends are definitely better left untried.

๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Fun in Villebois โ€“ Wilsonville's Villebois neighborhood is getting into the Halloween spirit with VilleBOO 2026, a festive neighborhood photo booth at Sofia Park on Saturday, October 31, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. It's a chance for families to show off their costumes, snap some fun Halloween pictures, and kick off an evening of trick-or-treating with neighbors. So round up your little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes. It's time to say cheese before heading out for candy!

๐ŸŽƒ Seven Generations of Fall Fun โ€“ Here's a little Tualatin history worth celebrating! As KGW recently highlighted, Lee Farms has been a family tradition for seven generations. That's a whole lot of pumpkins! The family-run farm has grown into a favorite fall destination, with hayrides, a corn maze, farm animals, fresh cider donuts, and plenty of pumpkins. Its annual Fall Harvest Festival continues through Halloween, October 31, at 21975 SW 65th Avenue. Seven generations later, they're still growing pumpkins and making memories. Not a bad family business!

๐Ÿ“š Let's Help White Rabbit Finish Strong! โ€“ After 12 years on Oregon City's Main Street, White Rabbit Books & Gifts is preparing to close its doors. The beloved independent bookstore has been a gathering place for book lovers, gift hunters, and neighbors since 2014. The owners recently announced that all inventory is now on sale, so here's an idea: Why not get a head start on Christmas shopping? Stop by 503 Main Street, find a few thoughtful gifts, and help this local favorite finish its final chapter on a high note!

๐Ÿก Lake Oswego Isn't the Only Place With Fancy Lakefront Living!

When you think of beautiful homes overlooking a private lake, Lake Oswego probably comes to mind.

Well, Lake Oswego, you've got some competition.

Meet Beaver Lake Estates, a private, gated community near Oregon City where the homes are gorgeous and the price tags have plenty of zeros.

This week's featured home at 20108 S. Driftwood Drive sits on nearly three acres, overlooking a 55-acre private lake.

The asking price? A cool $2,250,000.

For that, you get 7,975 square feet, five bedrooms, and seven bathrooms. Because apparently, nobody should ever have to wait to use the restroom.

There's a renovated kitchen, a gorgeous primary suite, four fireplaces, a massive bonus room, and lake views from nearly every room.

But wait. There's more.

The property includes a detached 2,300-square-foot guest residence with a kitchenette, lake views, and its own four-car garage.

That's bigger than many people's entire homes!

Residents also enjoy private lake access, walking trails, and community grounds.

So while Lake Oswego may have the name recognition, Beaver Lake Estates clearly knows a thing or two about luxury living.

Lake Oswego, you've officially been put on notice.

A final thoughtโ€ฆ

โ

You must have long-range goals to keep from being frustrated by short-range failures.

Charles C. Noble

Itโ€™s easy to let one bad day convince us weโ€™re headed in the wrong direction.

But most worthwhile things are messy in the middle. Progress rarely looks like a straight line, and a setback isnโ€™t the same thing as a dead end.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is look past today and remember where youโ€™re trying to go.

Keep the bigger picture in view. One rough chapter doesnโ€™t get to write the ending.

See you Thursday morning!
