Good morning, South Metro. Maybe you missed it, but Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija gave Lake Oswego a little love this week, posting a sunset photo over the lake and calling it his “second home.” Honestly, we get it, Deni. And we love you back!

In today’s South Metro Weekly:

  • Yoga in a lavender field?

  • An Old Time Fair that has plenty for you and the kids!

  • And some live music, good food and garage sales, too!

If someone forwarded this to you, join over 2,000 of your neighbors and subscribe for free.

Let’s get to the weekend!

🎈 😋 🧚‍♀️ 70th Annual West Linn Old Time Fair
Willamette Park, West Linn | July 10–12 | Free admission & parking
West Linn’s Old Time Fair returns for its 70th year with three days of classic summer fun at Willamette Park. Expect amusement rides, food vendors, a beer garden, live music, the community parade, pancake breakfast, water ski shows, car and boat shows, a pie-eating contest, and plenty for kids to do. It’s one of those big local traditions that feels tailor-made for a South Metro summer weekend.

💲 Beginner Stained Glass Workshop – Sunflower
Wilsonville Library | Saturday, 2–6 PM | Pre-registration required
Looking for something more hands-on than another trip around the farmers market? This beginner-friendly stained glass workshop walks participants through the Tiffany foil method while creating a sunflower design from a pre-cut glass kit. Materials are included, and the class covers safety, tools, soldering, framing, and finishing. It’s a slower-paced Saturday pick for anyone who wants to make something beautiful and actually bring it home.

🎈 😋 Breakside Brewery 5-Year Anniversary Party
Breakside Brewery, Lake Oswego | Saturday, 12 PM | Free to attend
Five years calls for a little celebrating, and this Lake Oswego anniversary party is bringing a few good reasons to stop by. The all-day event includes complimentary Alit Wines samples, new tavern-style pizzas, a Polaroid photo booth, and beer floats made with help from neighboring Salt & Straw. Flavors include strawberry coconut water sherbet with watermelon cucumber lime lager, plus a stout-and-caramel option — with root beer available for kids.

🎈 🎵 😋 ¡Viva Tualatin!
Tualatin Community Park | Saturday, 2–8 PM | Free admission
This one brings a full afternoon of summer energy to Tualatin Community Park, with live performances, food vendors, artisan booths, local organizations, and plenty for kids to do. The free, family-friendly celebration includes a water slide, slip ’n slide, crafts, face painting, and even a mechanical bull. It’s built around community, culture, and local flavor — basically the kind of event that makes a Saturday feel like summer.

💲 😋 Yoga in the Lavender Fields
Thistle & Bloom, Wilsonville | Sunday, 10–11 AM | Tickets required
Trade the usual Sunday reset for a mat in the middle of the lavender fields. This outdoor yoga class at Thistle & Bloom offers a peaceful hour surrounded by summer blooms, with Unfurl Yoga Studio leading the session. Bring your mat and water bottle, then stick around for a little extra lavender calm — each ticket includes a bundle of u-cut lavender after class.

📚 Lake Oswego has a new bookstore, and this one has more personality than the usual shelves-and-register setup. Thirsty Caterpillar, owned by Elizabeth Rogers, is now open with books, a cafe, local charm, and a story worth telling. You’ll find “the caterpillar” at 4200 Mercantile Drive in Lake O. Moms, you won’t want to miss the full feature on Elizabeth and the shop in Monday’s issue.

Provided by Thirsty Caterpillar - see more on Monday!

🍕 Meanwhile, Wilsonville will get a new pizza place this fall. Mountain Mike’s Pizza is planning to open next to Chipotle by September, just in time to become a new school-year dinner favorite. The local owners already operate several Portland-area restaurants, and the Wilsonville location is expected to begin accepting applications soon on their website.

🙏 Thank You, Chief. Canby Police Chief Jorge Tro is retiring, and Captain Jose Gonzalez will step in as Interim Police Chief beginning tomorrow. The city had been negotiating with candidate Jason Lindland, but no agreement was reached and Lindland has withdrawn. Canby says it is now evaluating next steps in the search.

🚧 West Linn has several summer construction projects underway, including new sidewalk and crossing work near Sunset Primary. Crews are filling gaps along Long Street and extending sidewalk access on Bitner Street near Sunset Park. Later this month or in early August, the city also expects to begin slurry seal work on some roads to help protect pavement and prevent bigger cracks and potholes.
