Good morning, South Metro. Getting together to listen to music has been a thing for quite some time. According to people who know history better than you and me, the first “music festival” was part of the Pythian Games held in 582 BC in Greece. Unfortunately, historians have been unable to confirm whether parking was also $40.
In today’s South Metro Weekly:
Sherwood goes medieval for the Robin Hood Festival
A voice heard ‘round the world this weekend comes from Lake Oswego
Harefest brings three days of tribute bands to Canby

Let’s get to the weekend!

🎈 🎵 😋 Sherwood Robin Hood Festival
Old Town Sherwood | Friday, 5–10 PM & Saturday, 9 AM–10 PM | Free
Sherwood goes full medieval this weekend with two days of live music, food, vendors, family entertainment, sword fighting and plenty of Robin Hood flair throughout Old Town. Saturday’s parade begins at 10 AM, while the long-running international archery tournament continues at Sherwood High School through Sunday. There are multiple performance stages, a beer garden and enough costumes to make you briefly question what century you’re in.
💵 🎵 😋 Harefest: The Mother of All Tribute Band Festivals
Clackamas County Fairgrounds, Canby | Thursday–Saturday | Ticketed, ages 21+
Three days, two stages and enough classic-rock singalongs to leave your voice sounding like it spent the weekend touring with AC/DC. Harefest brings more than 20 tribute acts to Canby, covering Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Def Leppard, the Eagles, Mötley Crüe, ABBA, Rush and plenty more. Food, drinks and onsite camping turn it into a full weekend experience—though day passes are also available for those who prefer their spandex in smaller doses.
🎈 🎵 Summer Kids’ Concert: Kelli Welli
Bridgeport Village, Tigard | Saturday, 10 AM–Noon | Free
Bridgeport Village is turning the Village Green into a pint-sized concert venue Saturday morning. Portland children’s musician Kelli Welli will lead the singing and dancing, with hula hoops, ribbons, bubbles and other activities adding to the fun. The outdoor concert takes place next to the children’s play area, making this an easy win for parents who would like their kids entertained—and possibly tired out—before lunch.
💲 🎵 😋 Petty Fever: A Tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Charbonneau Pavilion, Wilsonville | Sunday, 5–7 PM | $25
You don’t have to live like a refugee this Sunday night. Petty Fever brings more than four decades of Tom Petty favorites to Charbonneau, including “American Girl,” “Free Fallin’,” “Breakdown” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream.” The Portland-founded tribute band has earned awards in both Las Vegas and Los Angeles for its high-energy, full-production shows. A full bar will be available in the pavilion, so grab a drink, find a seat and prepare to sing along loudly enough to concern nearby golfers.

⚽ A Lake Oswego grad will call Sunday’s World Cup final. FOX Sports lead play-by-play announcer John Strong grew up in Portland, graduated from Lake Oswego High School and got his start there by creating Laker Broadcasting and calling school games. He still lives in the area year-round with his wife and children—a remarkable journey from the Lake Oswego High press box to soccer’s biggest stage. Good job, John. You make us proud!

🏀 And another Lake Oswego High alum is making local news. NBA veteran Kevin Love is backing The Alley, a new premium trading card shop opening later today in downtown Lake Oswego. Created by Love’s brother Collin and two partners, the shop includes a community lounge, card-pack bar and studio where collectors can film themselves opening new packs. Thanks to the fine work done by Mac Larsen at the Lake Oswego Review on this story.
🍽️ Sherwood has spoken on its favorite restaurants. A recent South Metro Weekly poll asked more than 16,000 Sherwood locals to name their favorite restaurant in town. Arceli’s Cocina finished fifth, followed by Mason at No. 4, Anderson’s Tavern at No. 3 and Fat Milo’s at No. 2. Taking the top spot: Clancy’s Pub. Thanks to all who voted on the What’s Happening in Sherwood Facebook Group.
🌿 Volunteers are needed Sunday to help restore Fields Bridge Park. The three-hour work party begins at 9 AM and will focus on removing invasive plants such as blackberry, ivy and holly from the West Linn park. Tools and some refreshments are provided, but advance registration is required. Your reward: cleaner trails, fresh air and the right to feel slightly superior for the rest of Sunday.

Wear your summer whites and spend the afternoon sipping aromatic white wines, trying thoughtfully paired bites and listening to live music overlooking the Willamette Valley. Grown adults will spend Saturday racing drift trikes, attempting blindfolded motorcycle duck walks and competing in events with names like Weenie Bite and Spark Plug Skee-Ball.
